Our response to COVID 19

What Heart and Stroke is doing to minimize the risk:
  • For providers with certificates expiring between March 2020 through May 2020, Heart & Stroke provided a renewal grace period until July 31, 2020. Please note timelines may be extended based on the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Heart & Stroke has made learning resources available to providers until they can renew their certifications:

  • BLS Blended course components are available online and providers can review them.

  • ACLS and PALS courses have pre-course assessments and a resources section on the Resuscitation Portal that providers can review online.

What Life Safe is doing to minimize the risk:
  • Instructors will be decontaminating the mannequin after each course participant practices or tests on the mannequin using an alcohol-based solution.

  • All Students are provided with gloves and medical masks throughout the day.

  • Face shields should not be used, and direct mouth-to-mannequin ventilations should not be practiced.

  • Pocket masks will not be used during the course.

  • Bag-valve masks (BVMs) should be used when practicing two-rescuer skills, and participants should wear gloves and clean BVMs between practices with an alcohol-based solution. When possible, mannequins should be spaced at least 1 meter (3 feet) apart during training, based on the World Health Organization (WHO) guidance on social distancing.

  • Instructors and participants must wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after the course, before and after snack or meal breaks during instruction, and after any absence from the classroom.

  • These additional precautions should be practiced until further notice from Heart & Stroke.

As always, please take actions in your classrooms to help prevent disease and protect your health:
    •    Practice good hygiene, including handwashing as directed above.
    •    Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.
    •    Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    •    Cough and sneeze into your sleeve and not your hands.
    •    Stay home if you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others.
