Online Course Options
Brief Description:

Self Directed learning was introduced by Heart and Stroke during the first wave of the COVID 19 Pandemic.
Part 1: Consists of an online module which the learner completes at their own pace on the Heart and Stroke website.
Part 2: Consists of an in class and hands-on assessment of your skills at a later date. Please see below for more information.

- ACLS is the pre-eminent resuscitation course for the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies.

- Heart & Stroke’s traditional classroom-based, instructor-led Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) has been re-factored to enable self-directed learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A current BLS certification is needed prior to accessing Part 1 of the ACLS Self Directed Learning. Students can do this Online or in person. Please see the above BLS blended 90 course description.
Part 1: (approx 6hrs) Self-Directed cognitive component – This is an online self-directed learning. Successful participants will earn a temporary certificate, indicating they passed this self-directed component. Part 1 prepares healthcare providers with the knowledge and ability to be an effective member of a healthcare team and get them up-to-speed quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please Note: Part 2 (in person) evaluations are scheduled on the Vancouver Island Course Calendar.
Part 2 : (Approx 6hrs)
The Part 2 course provides students with essential hands-on skills practice and skills testing necessary to support life-saving care during a cardiovascular emergency. An ACLS Provider certificate valid for 2 years is issued from the date of successful completion of the Part 2 course.
- PALS is an advanced resuscitation course for the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies in pediatric patients.

- Designed for healthcare providers involved in the management of critically ill pediatric patients,
- Heart & Stroke’s traditional classroom-based, instructor-led Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course has been re-factored to enable self-directed learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
