Pediatric advanced life support, written for the dental operatory.
When you sedate children, the numbers change with every kilogram. Dental PALS prepares the dentist and the sedation team to recognize a child who is getting into trouble, rescue a small airway, and manage a pediatric emergency until paramedics arrive.
Who it's for
The dentist who provides sedation to patients 12 years of age and under. BCCOHP requires that dentist to hold a current pediatric advanced life support certificate. Team members can take the Core Track.
How it works
1. Online, at your own pace. Ten modules in two tracks:
- Core Track (Modules 1–5): recognizing the seriously ill child, pediatric airway and breathing rescue, monitoring and sizing by weight, the pediatric kit, and team roles.
- Provider Track (Modules 6–10): pediatric rhythms, weight-based drugs, resuscitation pathways, pediatric sedation emergencies, and leading the resuscitation.
Each module ends with a knowledge check (80% to pass).
2. Hands-on, in person. Your training day is booked for you in advance, either on a scheduled course day or in your own clinic with a Life Safe instructor who brings all the equipment. We'll send you a text and an email with the location and details. The session focuses on pediatric respiratory and shock scenarios, using pediatric manikins, and gives you the chance to run pediatric codes.

Please note
- Your certificate is issued only after you complete the in-person session. BCCOHP does not accept a pediatric advanced life support course that is delivered entirely online.
- Designed to meet or exceed BCCOHP educational requirements for pediatric advanced life support.
- Pediatric dentists who use oral ketamine have a separate yearly pediatric simulation requirement. Dental PALS does not fulfil that requirement.
