A code in a dental operatory is won or lost by the whole room. The patient is reclined, draped and often sedated; the field is wet; the space is small; and help is minutes away. Dental ACLS trains your team for exactly that: recognizing the patient who is sliding, rescuing the airway, and running a resuscitation together until paramedics arrive. The course is designed to meet or exceed BCCOHP educational requirements for advanced cardiac life support, which the College requires for dentists providing moderate or deep sedation. Two tracks, one team Core Track: every member of the sedation team (Modules 1–5, about 2.5 hours) 1. The Dental ACLS system of care 2. Recognition: the deteriorating sedation patient 3. Airway rescue fundamentals 4. Monitoring, the emergency kit and the defibrillator 5. Team dynamics and your role in the code Provider Track: the dentist or sedation provider (Modules 6–10, about 3.5 hours, after the Core Track) 6. ECG rhythm recognition 7. Dental ACLS pharmacology, including local anaesthetic systemic toxicity and lipid emulsion 8. The Dental ACLS algorithms: cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia and post-arrest care 9. Sedation-specific emergencies: over-sedation, laryngospasm, bronchospasm, anaphylaxis, seizure, hypoglycemia and stroke 10. Leading the code in the operatory: defibrillation, cardioversion, pacing and the megacode How it works - Online, self-paced. Lessons with illustrated rhythm strips, and a knowledge check after every module, with every answer explained. - Written exams. - Core Track: a 25-question midpoint exam (20 to pass). - Provider Track: the midpoint exam, then a 25-question final exam (21 to pass). - One hands-on day, in your office. Your team practises together with your own equipment and assigned code roles. The day can be recorded as one of your office's required mock drills. Provider Track participants lead a megacode.
